Kindergarten registration for the following school year is usually held in January or February. You may either call your child’s school or Student Services at (916) 643-9435 for the enrollment dates. To begin school in September (or August for year-round schools), your child must be five years old on or before December 2 of that year.
If you have just moved into the district, enroll your child immediately. To register for the following year, please contact the school of attendance for the enrollment dates.

HOW TO CHANGE SCHOOLS WITHIN THE DISTRICT
Open Enrollment. If you would like your child to attend a district school other than your school of attendance, you may do so during the open enrollment period. Open enrollment is usually held in January or February for the following year. Open enrollment is through application and there may not be room for all students that apply. You must also register your child at their regular school of attendance if the child is not currently registered.

Intra-district Permit.
You may also apply for an intra-district permit to have your child attend a school other than their school of attendance. First, you must obtain an Intra-district Permit from your child's school of attendance with the approval of that school principal. Then, the permit should be taken to the "receiving" school and obtain the receiving school principal's approval.
HOW TO CHANGE SCHOOLS OUTSIDE THE DISTRICT
If you would like to change schools from your school of attendance to a school OUTSIDE the district, you will need to request an Inter-district permit. Call Student Services at 643-9435 for more information.
HOW TO CHANGE SCHOOLS FROM OUTSIDE THE DISTRICT TO A SCHOOL WITHIN THE DISTRICT
